GBV WATCH:A gang of three rape mentally challenged woman in Chwele

Police in Bungoma County have launched investigations into a gang rape incident involving a mentally challenged woman perpetrated by three men in Chwele.

The incident according to Police at Chwele Police Station occurred on the night of April 24, at around 9:00 p.m. in Busakala Village within Chwele Location.

A resident, Amos Wafula, reported that while heading home, he stumbled upon three men raping the woman in a bush near a footpath.

The suspects fled upon noticing his presence, but he managed to identify one of them.

Wafula rescued the victim, who is not known in the area and is believed to be mentally challenged, as she could neither speak nor respond to signs.

He rushed her to Benglad Medical Centre in Chwele, where she received treatment and was later discharged.

The following day, April 25, he escorted her to Chwele Police Station, prompting officers to visit the scene.

The victim was later taken to Chwele Sub-County Hospital for further medical attention.

Police have commenced investigations and are actively searching for the suspects, while also working to trace the victim’s family or caregivers to establish her identity.
