A first year student at Chuka University is recovering after a traumatic burglary and rape incident that occurred early today in Ndagani, Tharaka Nithi County.
Police at Chuka Police Station indicated that the victim reported that at around 4:00 a.m., three unknown male assailants gained access to her hostel room by unlocking the door, which had no padlock.
Once inside, one of the attackers sexually assaulted her while the other two ransacked the room, stealing items including a mobile phone (Infinix Hot 50i), a 6kg gas cylinder, and assorted clothing packed in a luggage bag.
The total value of the stolen items is estimated at Sh 21,000.
The victim believes the suspects may have been armed with knives.
Police officers from Chuka Police Station, detectives from DCI Chuka North, and crime scene investigators visited the scene, where it was processed and documented.
The victim was later escorted to Chuka Referral Hospital for medical attention and forensic examination.
Police have launched investigations into the incident.
