A Madaraka Day celebration in Marafa, Kilifi County, was briefly disrupted today after a man attempted to confront Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro while he was concluding his address at the Marafa Vocational Training Centre grounds.
According to a police report filed at Marafa Police Station, the incident occurred at about 3:45 p.m. on June 1, 2026, as the Governor was winding up his speech during the national celebrations.
The suspect, identified as Baraka Chula, a resident of Shela Ward in Malindi reportedly attempted to reach the governor at the podium.

Police suspect the suspect may have sustained injuries during the incident.
He was subsequently rushed to Malindi Sub-County Hospital for medical treatment by Watamu Ward MCA Ibrahim Abdi, who is also the Majority Leader in the Kilifi County Assembly, and Shela Ward MCA Twahir Abdikadir, both of whom were present during the ceremony.
Last week,an identified man confronted President William Ruto in the county as he addressed a gathering during a thanksgiving service for Youth ministry Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs.
The incident led to the reshuffle of Presidential Escort senior command where its former Commandant Noah Maiyo was deployed to the Vigilance house.
