A man has been arrested in Moiben, Uasin Gishu County, after he was found in possession of police identification documents, bank cards and Kenya Army combat clothing.
The suspect, identified as Ismael Kirwa, holder of national identity and a resident of Chepkorio in Keiyo South, Elgeyo Marakwet County, was arrested on Wednesday at Kimore Village along the Elgeyo border.
According to a police report, the suspect was spotted while travelling as a pillion passenger on a motorcycle.
He was allegedly wearing jungle trousers, prompting police officers on patrol to stop and question him.
The officers, identified as Police Constable Bonface Maiyo of the General Service Unit and Administration Police Constable Amos Ronoh, both attached to the residence of Principal Secretary in the National Treasury and Economic Planning Ministry Chris Kiptoo, reportedly became suspicious after the suspect appeared uncomfortable when questioned about the military style trousers.
He was subsequently arrested and the Officer Commanding Tembelio Police Station was informed.
A search conducted on the suspect allegedly recovered a certificate of appointment bearing the name of Police Constable Ephatus Nyoike Njoroge, a national identity card belonging to Njoroge, another identity card bearing the name Kilagat Kevin, and a Police Sacco ATM card bearing Njoroge’s name.
Police also recovered a National Bank Visa card bearing the name Ephatus N. Njoroge, a Kenya Army jungle trouser, a Kenya Army jungle jacket, a black Tecno mobile phone, three Safaricom lines and two Airtel lines.
The suspect is currently being held in police custody as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers from Moiben take over the matter for further investigations.
Police have classified the case as pending under inquiry as investigators seek to establish how the suspect came into possession of the police documents, bank cards and military clothing.
