Police constable on induction fatally Shot by colleague at Kitui training camp

A police constable undergoing induction training was fatally shot at the Wikithuki Border Patrol Unit (BPU) training camp in Tseikuru, Kitui County, on Sunday.

The deceased, identified as APC Raphael Ojiambo, was allegedly shot by a fellow constable, APC Hussein Yusuf Ali, at around 3pm.

According to a police incident report, the bullet entered Ojiambo’s chest and lodged near his left shoulder.

Both officers had recently graduated from police training and were undergoing induction at the camp.

Two G3 rifles were recovered at the scene, including one issued to the deceased and another assigned to the suspected shooter.

No spent cartridge was recovered.

The report indicated that Ali reportedly fled the camp following the incident, prompting a search operation to trace and apprehend him.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, with investigations expected to establish what led to the incident.
