Police in Nyamira South have launched investigations into the death of the county National Intelligence Officer (NIS) who was found dead inside his residence within the County Commissioner’s compound.
According to a report made at Nyamira Police Station yesterday,the incident was reported by Henry Yegon after his supervisor, David Kipkoech Kosgei, 56, failed to report to work and could not be reached on his mobile phone despite repeated calls.
Concerned by the unusual silence, Yegon proceeded to Kosgei’s residence accompanied by Assistant County Commissioner Wilberforce Biyegon.
Although the deceased’s phone could be heard ringing inside the house, there was no response, prompting them to force entry into the residence.
Upon entering, they found Kosgei, who also served as Secretary to the County Commissioner Committee, lying face down on a bed while holding a pillow.
Clotted blood stained vomit was reportedly observed on the bedroom floor.
The scene was visited by members of the County Security Committee and the Sub-County Security Committee, who confirmed the incident.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers documented and processed the scene.
Police reported that no visible external injuries were detected on the body.
His emains were transferred to Nyamira County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to determine the cause of death.
The case has been classified as a pending investigation, with officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) leading further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death.
