Residents of Mai-Hii-II village in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, have been left without electricity after unknown criminals vandalized a power transformer and siphoned all its oil.
According to a police incident report, the matter was reported at Mai-Hii-II Police Post by Edith Njeri Ndirangu, a resident of Kikuyu.
She told police that at about 12:30 a.m.today electricity went off in the area, prompting her to assume it was a routine power outage.
However, when she woke up later in the morning, she discovered that the transformer installed on her farm had been vandalized.
The suspects had drained all the transformer oil before fleeing, leaving behind only the damaged transformer shell.
A joint team comprising officers from the DCI Kikuyu, Gikambura Police Station, and Kenya Power personnel visited the scene.
Investigators confirmed that the transformer had been vandalized by unknown individuals who stole the insulating oil.
Investigations have been launched to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Police have classified the case as pending under investigation (P.U.I.).
