Uasin Gishu Lands Officer Denies Sh100,000 Bribery Charge

A lands officer in Uasin Gishu County has been arraigned in court over allegations of soliciting and receiving a Sh100,000 bribe to facilitate the subdivision of land.

The accused, Noah Kipkemboi, appeared before the court on Tuesday and was charged with receiving a bribe contrary to the provisions of the Bribery Act, 2016.

According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the case arose from a complaint alleging that Kipkemboi demanded a bribe from a member of the public in exchange for facilitating a land subdivision process.

Documents presented in court indicate that EACC investigations established that the suspect allegedly solicited the money and received part of it from the complainant.

Upon completion of investigations, the Commission forwarded the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), where the charges were approved.

The court granted the accused a cash bail of Sh30,000 or an alternative bond of Sh100,000 pending the hearing and determination of the case.
