Makadara MP and ODM Nairobi County Chairman George Aladwa appears to be facing an increasingly difficult political battle as he seeks to contest the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election following Governor Johnson Sakaja’s defection from UDA to ODM.
On Monday, Sakaja officially joined ODM during a ceremony at Chungwa House in Nairobi, where he was received by senior party officials led by Deputy Party Leader and Kisii Governor Simba Arati and National Chairperson Gladys Wanga, the Homa Bay Governor.
The development has raised questions about Aladwa’s political ambitions, given that he has been eyeing the same seat under the ODM ticket.

Soon after Sakaja’s reception, Aladwa moved to reassure his die hard supporters, urging them to remain calm, united and steadfast despite the unfolding political developments.
He maintained that their commitment to ODM and the people of Nairobi had not been in vain, saying he understood their concerns and cautioning them against being distracted or divided by rumours and political manoeuvres.
“The journey to Nairobi’s leadership must be guided by the will of the people, fairness and democratic principles. I remain focused, confident and committed to our shared vision. Stay strong, keep faith and let us continue engaging peacefully,” he told his supporters.
Aladwa’s statement appears to signal his determination to remain in the gubernatorial race despite Sakaja’s entry into ODM, setting the stage for a potentially competitive battle for the party’s Nairobi ticket.
Ultimately, the people’s voice must prevail.
